Why I chose to encapsulate my placenta

Placenta Encapsulation

// Tshirt - Monki x RSFU //

I'm not gonna lie, the first time I heard the words 'Placenta Encapsulation' it made me think of digging a hole in the garden, popping your placenta into one of those time capsules and burying it with a nice letter for some sort of good luck spell (or for your ancestors to discover hundreds of years later, yum) Well guys, I can confirm that's not the case! Placental Encapsulation is the practice of ingesting the placenta after it has been steamed, dehydrated, ground, and placed into pills. And you can guess by the title of this post that's exactly what I have done with my own, so I'm gonna share some reasons why.

Go with the glow

36 weeks pregnant

When someone tells you during pregnancy that you're glowing, I know you should really take that compliment gracefully and gratefully. Whenever someone said that to me, I proceeded to tell them I was 'pure roastin' (v.warm in Scottish terms) and that it was probably sweat! Especially when I was staying down in London before Christmas - carting around with a massive belly on the tube was definitely not an easy task. I do agree though that the pregnancy glow is definitely a real thing, mostly thanks to hormones and an increased blood flow to the skin making it appear brighter (oh, and plumper!) Someone on instagram accused me of having lip fillers while pregnant, lols. Maybe this time last year, but nothing since - the sweaty glow and plump features were all thanks to Baby Roo! Eventually I learned to accept these new features, and hell I even embraced it and attempted to accentuate it. I took these pictures a few days before my baby shower and had planned one last blog post, but thanks to Reubens early arrival this is me just getting round to sharing them now. Here's some extra bits and pieces I was using to totally go with the glow.

And then there were three

Newborn photoshoot

On the 15th of February at 2.48pm, we welcomed our beautiful baby boy, Reuben Alexander Duthie into the world. If you follow me on other social media channels, there's no doubt you'll know this already as I have been sharing lots of pictures and videos of this little guy (can ya really blame me though?!) I didn't expect my last blog post to be the very last one I would write before his arrival, but he caught us rather off guard and was born three weeks early. This was just a few days after my baby shower (good timing huh!) So one month and one day later, we are settling into a sort of routine and I actually feel like I have the brain capacity and time while he sleeps, to share some pictures and his birth story.

What's in my hospital bag?

36 weeks pregnant

Oh my days, how is it February already? My first post of 2018 definitely comes a little later than planned. I'll be honest I have absolutely no idea where January disappeared to. It was a month of navigating work while trying to negotiate with a body which no longer feels like my own. Heavy, tired, sore - I ended up finishing my last job a week earlier than planned due to tearing a muscle in my back. Turns out that turning your body and coughing at the same time can do such a thing! Anyways, moaning aside, it's now only 3 weeks until we get to meet our little fella, and I actually can't believe it. I gave myself a hard time having to admit defeat and leave work early, but I think it was maybe a blessing in disguise. Now the REAL nesting and final baby prep can begin. So, here's a little post sharing where I'm at so far.

The week where things got sketchy

Tea and tattoos

In more ways than one, dear readers. Pop the kettle on, this might take a while. If you follow me on social media you'll maybe know that I am currently down in London for 3 weeks, doing a technical drawing course at the London Film School. Coming to live and study in London maybe isn't an ideal thing to do at 6 months pregnant (commuting on the tube, living away from home, and the extra £££ it costs for essentially a working 'holiday' down here) But determined Ayden is determined to say the least... and with the clock ticking before baby D arrives in March, it was a now or never moment when I booked up a few months ago.

23 week pregnancy update

23 week bump

It's been 5 weeks since my last pregnancy update, and in 5 weeks of baby growing there has been a whole tonne of changes. Physical, emotional, and not to mention the size of my ever expanding belly! It still doesn't feel quite real to be honest. But here's how things have been going from weeks 18-23.

18 week pregnancy update

Pregnant 1

It still doesn't feel completely real when I talk or type about anything pregnancy related. Since my last (and first!) update, the days have been absolutely flying in and in a few weeks time I'll already be halfway through. If you follow me on instagram or twitter, you might have seen that we went for an early private scan to find out our little bubs gender, and it turns out we are having a boy! I had a midwife appointment this morning before work, and we got to hear his heartbeat again (always a nice and obvious reminder that hey, he's definitely still in there!) This whole experience is completely new and unchartered territory for me, so I thought I would give you a super honest rundown of how I've been finding things so far.

A very special 500th blog post

You guuuuys - I could not be more excited about typing out my 500th blog post on Little Blog Of Horrors, especially when the content of it is so very, very special to me. You probably already know the news if we're friends on facebook, or if you follow me on twitter/instagram. But yeah, holy shit, Pete and I are having a baby!
